Abstract
V. vulnificus was isolated from bulla cultures of three cases of septicemia caused by V. vulnificus during the month of July, 1986 in Chun buk province area. The following results were obtained.
1. All patients were male of over 40 rears of age, with histories of excessive alcohol consumption and underlying hepatic disease. The patients ate raw sea-fish and shell fish a day prior _..,to the onset of clinical symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea and chills.
Frequently shown clinical features were hypotension, pain and cutaneous lesion on extremities. SGOT and SGPT were elevated to over 74 units as well.
2. V. vulnificus was differentiated when a gram-negative bacilli producing large-greenish and hemolytic colonies on blood agar plate. The isolates were also halophilic and susceptible to ampicillin, but resistant to colistir. sulphate. All strains were easily identified with both API 20E and conventional methods. Other biochemical tests showed typical reactions of V. vulnificus.
3. The isolated strains were susceptible to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, gentamicin and tetracycline, but resistant to carbenicillin, cephalothin, colistin sulphate, kanamycin and penicillin.
